Mann comes home

This morning something surprising popped up in Apple's trailer feed in Netnewswire. Michael Mann has returned to the beginning of his succes and is directing a feature movie based on the legendary eighties' series Miami Vice.

Judging by the teaser/trailer, Mann's new Miami Vice borrows a lot of style from Collateral. Of course, Jamie Foxx returns, but especially the design of the cityscape and lights feel familiar. Mann is one of my favorite directors and it's nice to see him rework the series that impressed me when I was in my teens.

Electronische krant komt in 2006

iRex, een spin-off van Philips, heeft aangekondigd dat de electronische krant in 2006 een feit zal zijn. Emerce bericht er het volgende over:

een elektronische krant die gebruik maakt van 'elektronische inkt', een technologie die onder meer door Philips is ontwikkeld. De krant, een soort platte pda die Pdf, platte tekst en XHTML kan weergeven, en daarnaast ook Mp3 bestanden kan afspelen, moet in april 2006 verschijnen.

Als ik de PDF van iRex met het 'Iliad' tablet bekijk, moet ik zeggen dat ik nog moet zijn of het product in deze vorm zo aantrekkelijk is. Hoewel het maar 390 gram weegt en de batterijlading twee weken meegaat, zit er toch een 'scherm' in je tas - totaal anders dan de verfrommelbare krant. Ik vraag me af of menig gebruiker dan toch niet gewoon de krant op een (sub)notebook met meer functionaliteit leest.

Ik wacht de eerste exemplaren met spanning af.
